Shaping the Future of Public Spaces in Pinpointland

Public spaces bring us together. They’re where we play, gather, and connect with nature and culture. As Pinpointland grows, our needs are evolving. The Municipality is creating a Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan to ensure our spaces continue to serve residents now and in the future.

We’re planning ahead. The Master Plan helps us understand what we have, identify what we need, and figure out how to grow wisely. It’s about keeping our parks, trails, programs, and cultural facilities strong and accessible.

Pinpointland is expanding rapidly. From 1996 to 2021, it was the fastest-growing municipality in the region. Growth is expected to continue, with the population forecast to more than double, reaching 221,000 people over the next 30 years.

This plan focuses on four major areas:

  • Parks: Public and natural spaces for play, rest, and recreation
  • Recreation: Community centres, facilities, equipment, and activities
  • Culture: Libraries, heritage, and the visual and performing arts
  • Trails: The networks that link our neighbourhoods and encourage outdoor movement

The plan will guide decisions for the next 10 to 15 years. It will also support other key initiatives, such as the Active Transportation Master Plan.

How We Built the Plan

The process was rooted in community input. We heard from residents through open houses, surveys, and written submissions. Staff provided insight through internal workshops, committee meetings, and Council interviews. We also examined data trends and existing resources.

What Informed the Work

A variety of factors helped shape the recommendations:

  • Current and future population figures
  • Use rates for facilities and programs
  • Anticipated demand for future services
  • Median household income and age
  • Equity, inclusion, and demographic diversity
  • Climate change impacts
  • Urban and rural population densities, including transit hubs
  • Provincial legislation such as Bill 23
  • Funding availability and budget constraints

Looking Ahead

We’re nearing the final stage. When complete, the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan will provide a roadmap for creating inclusive, active, and vibrant communities. Thank you to everyone who shared their voice and helped shape the future of Pinpointland.
